DAVENPORT, Iowa — Friday brought the third annual Corn State Nationals to the Davenport Speedway, featuring the MARS racing series.
It also brought a third consecutive MARS victory at Davenport for Jason Feger of Bloomington, Illinois.
Feger, who once claimed he didn’t run well here (Davenport), must be getting the hang of it. Jason set fast time in qualifying, despite going out 27th. He won his heat race and led 38 of the 40 laps in the A-Main.
The feature started with Tanner English leading lap one. Feger took over on lap two, running on the high side. Ryan Unzicker made a charge halfway through the race and took the lead on lap 26. Unzicker would get by Feger again on lap 29, only to have that move erased by a caution flag.
After the final restart, Feger started to pull away from the pack and finished with a winning margin of 0.963 seconds. Unzicker took second, while Dylan Thornton finished a distant third after starting tenth. Ryan Gustin ran top five most of the race and finished fourth. Tanner English rounded out the top five.
Jed Freiburger captured the win in the Midwest Recyclers / Del’s Metal Co. – IMCA Modifieds.
The Wangelin’s Auto – IMCA Hobby Stocks saw a lot of changing positions, but not for the top spot. Karter Miles drew #1 in the redraw and used it to his advantage, leading all 15 laps of the main.
Crown Vics made their first appearance as a class at Davenport Speedway. Derrick Dean came away with the win.
