CONCORD, N.C. — Qualifying night is complete at the Dave Smith Motors World of Outlaws World Finals, setting the lineups for heat races Thursday and Friday.
A stout 74-car field of World of Outlaws Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision competitors took to The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Wednesday, and a pair of Carolina favorites came out on top.
Nick Hoffman led the way in Mark Martin Automotive Qualifying for Thursday’s program, while Chris Madden set the pace in the Friday session.
Hoffman’s lap of 14.621 seconds was enough to claim his Series-leading 11th Simpson Quick Time Award of the season and earn the pole position for heat four on Thursday. The No. 9 team is in position to potentially take a chunk out of Bobby Pierce’s 76-point lead in the standings, as the points leader qualified 15th in Group A and will start fifth in heat three.
Madden is a four-time World of Outlaws winner at Charlotte and will go for a fifth triumph Friday from the pole of Heat 1 thanks to his fast lap of 14.689 seconds.
Joining Hoffman as heat race polesitters on Thursday will be Kale Green, Ryan Gustin, Brandon Overton, Trey Mills and Chris Ferguson. Dallon Murty, Ryan Gustin, Ferguson, Jadon Frame and Green will also lead their respective heat races to green on Friday.
As for the championship contenders, Hoffman will start second in heat five, while Pierce will roll off sixth in heat six.
