BARRE, Vt. — Marcel Gravel took top honors in the Maplefields/Irving Late Model feature that headlined Friday night’s racing program at Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl.
Brandon Lanphear versus Stephen Martin led the field with Martin nabbing the early lead by a fender in their 60-lap Bergamot + Amor trophy dash.
Stephen Donahue initially looked good on the outside groove before falling back and leaving Lanphear and Martin to duke it out alone. Donahue’s turn four spin brought out the lap 11 caution to set off the first of two drag-races between Lanphear and Martin. The two top runners kept things interesting while Marcel Gravel and Taylor Hoar made their duo into a group of four out front.
The final caution on lap 46 for Boomer Morris’ turn one spin, Gravel and Lanphear faced off for the final time under the restart green.
Gravel took the edge this time around and ran away to take his first win of the season followed by Lanphear and Martin to complete the podium.
Brendan Moodie won the Flying Tiger feature and Zach Audet claimed the street stock main event. Taylor Sayers took top honors in the Road Warriors.
