SEPANG, Malaysia — Marc Marquez turned in a dominant performance to win Sunday’s Grand Prix of Malaysia and move a step closer to another MotoGP world championship.
The Ducati Lenovo Team rider got the holeshot at the start of the race and led throughout and beat Red Bull KTM man Pedro Acosta to the finish line by 4. 1 seconds for his seventh win of the season.
Marquez, who is nearing an eighth series championship, holds a healthy 44-point lead over injured rival Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix, and a 67-point advantage over Marco Bezzecchi after the Italian finished sixth in Malaysia.
The winner’s brother, Alex Marquez, finished third for BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP.
Bezzecchi came home fourth, with Enea Bastianini rounding out the top five.
