DAVENPORT, Iowa — Night two of the Davenport Dirt Stars played out as rough and tumble as Night one. The action kept the safety crew and tow truck operators busy.
When it was all said and done only one driver hit the Dirt Stars double.
Dustin Smith was unstoppable in the Karl Chevrolet Premier Late Model feature. Smith jumped out to a big lead early and managed to hold the top spot through several restarts. Dustin held a 1.728-second lead at the checkered flag.
C.J. Horn battled from sixth starting position to finish second. Ninth place starter Nick Marolf raced to third, starting and finishing one spot better than Jeff Aikey. Andy Nezworski rounded out the top five.
The Midwest Recyclers / Del’s Metal Co. – IMCA Modified feature went to Jace Eckrich. Jace went from third starting position to lead the first lap of the main. Jason Schueller led lap two, but Eckrich regained the lead on the following lap. Eckrich led the rest of the way to the checkers, finishing with a 2-second advantage over second place.
Jace Whitt finished second for the second night in a row. Friday’s winner Brandon Durbin took third. Matt Werner and Shane Paris rounded out the top five.
Scotty Pratt was the lone driver to win on both Friday and Saturday in the Koehler Electric – Street Stock class. Jesse Owen had to settle for the runner-up spot again. Jake Lund finished third over Kyle Anderson and Tyler Gilmour.
Ben Chapman pocketed the win in the Freds Towing / Cantrell Towing / QC Towing – IMCA SportMods. Chapman started on the front row and led every lap of the race. Finishing second was a charging Jarrett Franzen. Franzen started tenth and worked his way through the field, but needed more laps to track down Chapman. Bryson Eckrich was third, followed by Finn Oppenheimer and Levi Laymon.
Braden Richards of Madrid, Iowa scored the victory in the D & K Home Products – IMCA Stock Cars. Richards was able to pull away from David Brandies and Jordan Miles for the win. Brandies and Miles would finish second and third respectively. Kodey Miles and John Oliver Jr. completed the first five finishers.
After Friday’s miscue on the final lap, Carson Butt stormed back to capture the Wangelin’s Auto – IMCA Hobby Stock main. Carson started seventh and had to battle his way through the pack, taking the lead on lap 11. Friday’s winner Matt Bennett drove from seventh to second in the final two laps of the race. Jordan Miles, Kael Koch, and Tristan Wenig finished third through fifth, in that order.
