WEST SALEM, Wis. — Randy Sargent captured the 48-lap Big 8 Late Models Series feature race Saturday night which highlighted day three of the 57th Oktoberfest Race Weekend at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
Grabbing fast time honors earlier in the day, the 29-year-old Sargent, from South Beloit, Ill., wheeled his XL Contracting/Palmer’s Repair and Fab Camry No. 11 to the victory, finishing ahead of Jacob Goede by 2.018 seconds.
Sargent and race leader Goede staged a side-by-side duel for some 15 laps or so with the inside groove-running Sargent finally taking over the top spot with about 11 laps to go.
Finishing behind the leading duo in the 26-car feature field were early race leader Steve Bachman, Jeremy Miller, Zack Riddle and Ryan Karmish Sr. Three caution periods slowed the action at the five-eighths paved oval. By finishing eighth in the feature, Michael Bilderback was crowned the Big 8 Series champion – his sixth career championship.
Cameron Preisler won the 25-lap main event for Mid-Am Racing Series drivers. Pushing passed leader Timmy Stewart in the closing laps, Preisler scored his second Mid-Am feature race of the year ahead of Kenny Richards, former five-time champion Ron Vandermeir Jr., Stewart, Bobby Gash III and rookie of the year Kellen Arnold III. A seventh-place finish netted Daniel Calhoun series championship honors.
Eugene Gregorich Jr. claimed top honors in the 30-lap Midwest Truck Series headliner. Grant Griesbach finished second, followed by Danielle Behn, Jason Weinkauf, Brady Bill and series points leader Tristan Swanson.
Kyle Stark took home top honors in the 20-lap Midwest Dash Series feature race. Stark’s son, Karter, finished second with Mark Dewey, Tim Anderson, Mark English and Josh Wilhite rounding out the “top six.”
