Sprint Rankings: Marks Reaches 20-Start Plateau

On a weekend when only eight of the scheduled 410 winged sprint car races defeated Mother Nature, Brent Marks became the first driver this season to reach the 20 start mark and officially opening the National Sprint Car Rankings.

Marks, who made his 20th start at Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway, has an average finish of 11.650. Six more drivers are expected to reach 20 starts this coming weekend. Three hundred and two drivers have started at least one 410 winged sprint car feature this season.

Cale Thomas, who won Saturday at Fremont (Ohio) Speedway now leads the Great Lakes region, while Chase Dietz continues to lead the Eastern region on the strength of four victories this season.

Other regional leaders are Aaron Reutzel (Western), Michael “Buddy” Kofoid (Mid-America), David Gravel (Great Plains) and Jacob Bergenwald (PA-OH).

Gravel, who won his fourth feature of the season Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, shares the lead in the winners’ standings with Dietz and Kofoid, with all three having four triumphs.

Thirty-six drivers have combined to win the 57 features run this season.

Commissioned by Tom Deery and Brian Carter in 2009, the Sprint Car Rankings are administered by longtime racing official Gary Spaid.
