CLEWISTON, Fla. — Christian Augspurger charged through the field and took the lead on lap 40 to capture the 50-lap CRUSA Dirt Late Model feature during the Trailene Boyd-Webster Memorial Race at Hendry County Motorsports Park.
Augspurger, who started fifth, made his way toward the front in a race that featured plenty of passing throughout the field. James Haynes led much of the distance after starting from the pole, but Augspurger’s late-race charge ultimately proved to be the difference.
Augspurger set the pace in time trials with a lap of 14.845 seconds, earning the fastest qualifying time. The top six qualifiers then drew for their starting positions, with Augspurger drawing the fifth starting spot. Haynes, despite qualifying fifth, drew the pole position for the feature.
Steven Mathis Jr. also found himself in the battle for the lead during the race. However, his run toward the front faded in the closing 10 laps, and he eventually crossed the finish line in fifth.
After Augspurger took command on lap 40, a series of cautions gave Haynes opportunities to reclaim the lead. Even with the interruptions and a final caution with one lap remaining, Haynes was unable to regain the top spot, as Augspurger held on to secure the $3,000 victory.
Haynes settled for second, followed by Jason Intoppa in third and John Haynes in fourth. Mathis Jr. completed the top five.
