Davenport Conquers Modoc Speedway

MODOC, S.C. — It took a little longer than he would have liked, but Jonathan Davenport is officially a winner with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision in 2026.

Less than 90 minutes south of his home on the “Dirty Dollar Ranch” in Belton, S.C,, “Superman” took the checkers on the final night of the Modoc 100 at Modoc Speedway to cap off the track’s first weekend on the national Late Model stage.

Despite never competing full time on the World of Outlaws tour, Davenport is among the most successful drivers in series history. His Modoc win was the 19th of his career with the World of Outlaws, placing him in a tie with Mike Marlar and Nick Hoffman for 14th on the all-time list, and leaving him behind only Jimmy Owens as the second-winningest driver without a full-time season under their belt.

Davenport got to the lead at Modoc at the expense of Friday winner Cody Overton, who got over the cushion and pounded the Turn 1 wall on Lap 20, ending his night and handing the lead to Davenport. The No. 49 looked dominant in clean air, but traffic allowed his challengers to get back in range.

As the laps continued to wind down, his biggest threat became Bobby Pierce, who worked his way from 21st in the starting order all the way to second.

But as Pierce was sizing up a move for the lead with five to go, the No. 32 slowed on the backstretch and entered the infield with a broken oil pump belt, leaving Pierce as a DNF in 18th.

His misfortune handed second to Ryan Gustin, who ripped the cushion for all it was worth to try and pass Davenport, ultimately ending up a few car-lengths short in second.

“Good thing I ain’t got a rearview mirror because I really don’t know where they was at,” Davenport said. “I didn’t know where I was best at or worse at. What a phenomenal race track. I wasn’t in love with it last night, but it was better than old Modoc. But tonight, I loved it, it was really good. You had to really hit your marks to where you were going to run at on the race track, you could really slip and not get back going the other way. It’s just so icy slick.”

Gustin’s second-place result was his best series finish since Georgetown Speedway on May 13, while Hudson O’Neal put the K&L Rumley Enterprises No. 6 on a World of Outlaws podium for the seventh time this season in third.

Trey Mills finished in a career-best fourth ahead of Nick Hoffman, whose fifth-place run combined with Pierce’s DNF has his points deficit at 76 markers with three race nights remaining at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
