NEW SMYRNA, Fla. — Using a timely caution flag to his advantage, NASCAR Cup Series regular William Byron won Monday’s Clyde Hart Memorial 100 at New Smryna Speedway.
The event that highlighted night four of the 55th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing drew a stellar field.
Gabe Sommers was in command of the 100-lap event when the yellow flag waved for Jackson Boone’s crash with 29 laps remaining.
Driving for Donnie Wilson Motorsports, Byron took advantage of the restart and blasted around Sommers for the lead.
From there, Byron, who finished ninth on Sunday, led the remainder of the distance. Sommers came home second, with Sammy Smith, Derek Griffith and Justin Mondeik rounding out the top five.
Craig Lutz led every lap to win the series opener for the Tour-type modifieds for the second consecutive year.
Jimmy Blewett finished second, with Patrick Emerling, Ron Silk and Teddy Hodgdon rounding out the top five.
Michael Hinde won the pro late model feature and Carsten DiGiantomasso topped the 602 modified run.
Terry Fisher was best in the Florida modified division.
