Schaltenbrand Strikes Gold In Hidden Valley

CLEARFIELD, Pa. — Kenny Schaltenbrand made his first ever trip to Hidden Valley Speedway Friday night for the 10th running of the Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey Memorial race and came home with the $3,000 top prize as the super late models made a rare appearance at the “Ultimate Bull Ring.”

The super late models saw Justin Carlson and Kenny Schaltenbrand on the front row, with Schaltenbrand taking the lead at the drop of Sam McClelland’s green flag.

The first half of the race saw Schaltenbrand setting the pace, with Carlson in second and Denny Fenton in third. “Hot Rod” Rodney Phillips and Skylar Park were completing the top five.

Lap 15 saw the first caution, when Park spun, regrouping the field. When the green flew, it was still Schaltenbrand leading and Carlson still in second. As the laps wound down, eight place started Joey Petyak tested the high side, and it was working for him.

He started to pick off the cars and had worked himself to third, but was unable to advance closer to the front. When McClelland waved the double checkered flags it was Schaltenbrand getting his career first HVS win over Carlson, Petyak, Fenton and Matt Martin.

Other winners during the Independence Day Special were Brad Benton in the Semi Lates, Shannon Casher, subbing for his dad, Aaron in the Small Block Modifieds and Joe Huber in the Four Cylinders.

Tim Steis found the Pure Stock winners circle third time this season while William Kephart picked up the Four Cylinder win in the makeup feature from June 27, making his second win of the season.
