LOUDON, N.H. — Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano won the pole for Sunday’s Mobil 1 301 during qualifying Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Logano drove his No. 22 Team Penske Ford to a lap of 29.159 seconds at 130.622 mph on the one-mile race track.
It is Logano’s second pole of the season and the 33rd of his career in 609 starts.
“It’s more of a relief when you win the pole. It’s because you sat there and your adrenaline is gone and you’re just chilling and you’re just watching, nervous the whole time,” Logano said. “This was like I just got out of the car and I’m still shaking. I haven’t calmed down yet. And the other piece of it, like I said it’s New Hampshire, but the fans cheer for me (laughter). It’s freaking cool. That doesn’t happen everywhere.
“It’s like just here, so I love that. It’s a little bit more exciting when you’re able to win the pole when the whole grandstand is happy for you. That’s kind of neat.”
Logano’s Team Penske teammate Ryan Blaney will share the front row on Sunday. Josh Berry will start third in the Wood Brothers Racing Ford.
Tyler Reddick was the fastest Toyota, taking the fourth spot, while Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron was fifth in a Chevrolet.
Chevrolet drivers Carson Hocevar, Alex Bowman and Ross Chastain completed the top eight spots.
Denny Hamlin will start ninth in a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. JGR drivers have won all three playoff races this season.
