INDIANAPOLIS — Alex Palou isn’t simply dominating the NTT IndyCar Series, he smacked down the competitors by winning his third-straight pole in the Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Palou won the pole with a ridiculous lap in the Firestone Fast Six at 1:09.748 around the 14-turn, 2.439-mile IMS Road Course in the No. 10 DHL Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing.
“It’s tough to get the car in good windows like these guys have been doing, but it’s a lot of work these guys at Chip Ganassi Racing are doing,” Palou said on pit lane. “Very happy to get the No. 10 on the pole once again here. The car was amazing. Not everyone was running on the new alternates so we might be at a disadvantage in the race, but I’m very happy to be starting on the pole for this race.”
Palou is attempted to win his fourth-straight Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway later Saturday. That race is scheduled for 4:57 p.m. Eastern Time with the FOX telecast at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Pato O’Ward of Arrow McLaren was second at 1:10.296 in the No. 5 Chevrolet.
“My team turned it around for me,” O’Ward said. “I have to thank them. Yesterday was a perfect example, when it’s not working, you have to get it into the window of performance.
“We did that today. It was a collaborative team effort. It’s another front row for us this year. A long way into Turn 1, but I’m looking forward to the race. This place has been very good to us.
“I think we can turn this into a very good day. I expect the 10 car (Palou) to be strong on the Black tires as he always is. We will try to do what is best for us.”
O’Ward was followed by Felix Rosenqvist in the No. 60 Meyer Shank Honda at 1:10.454, Christian Lundgaard in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet at 1:10.475, Team Penske’s David Malukas at 1:10.566 in the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet with Louie Foster of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing the final driver in the Fast Six at 1:10.940 in the No. 45 Honda.
