BROWNSBURG, Ind. — Layne Riggs led 198 of 200 laps to win Friday night’s TSport 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.
With his fifth victory of the season, the Front Row Motorsports driver takes the No. 1 seed in the Truck Series playoffs with two races remaining in the regular season.
“I think it’s just a statement win,” Riggs said after starting his Ford from the pole and controlling the race. “What a truck! I was just on cruise control.”
Riggs took the checkered flag 1.148 seconds ahead of Connor Mosack to win at IRP for the second straight season. The grandstands were sold-out for the ARCA and Truck Series doubleheader.
“I just feel like we’ve finally perfected every part that we need. I’m super confident coming to every single race track,” Riggs said. “I know exactly what it takes to go fast. That’s three poles now. I’ve got the win tonight. It was just an amazing truck and it’s just fine-tuning the little things, going to these tracks for the second, third, fourth time and seeing them and knowing exactly what it takes to win at these places after getting my teeth kicked in at some other ones. I’m super proud of everybody. Man, what a truck.”
Riggs extended his point lead to 100 markers over Kaden Honeycutt. Honeycutt who won the ARCA Menards Series race earlier in the night, pitted late for tires and ended up seventh.
Ty Majeski finished third, while Chandler Smith, who took the lead from his teammate Riggs for two laps, came home fourth.
Driving for Spire Motorsports, Nick Sanchez finished fifth.
Stewart Friesen’s Halmar team put two Toyotas in the top 10 as he finished sixth and teammate Mike Christopher Jr. in his series debut came home 10th.
