Russell Sets The Pace At Monza

MONZA, Italy — George Russell was fastest during th second Free Practice ahead of the Italian Grand Prix Friday afternoon at Monza.

Russell posted a 1minute and 22.559-second lap, which left the Mercedes driver 0.120 seconds clear of Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari.

Russell’s Mercedes teammate, Kimi Antonelli, who is due to start at the back of the grid for the Grand Prix after taking an engine change, was 0.021 seconds further back.

All 22 regular drivers were back in action for FP2 after Max Verstappen, Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon and Sergio Perez missed the opening, one-hour session as their respective seats were taken by F-1 rookies.

The winner of the two most recent grands prix, Lando Norris, was fourth quick for McLaren, while Lewis Hamilton was fifth in the second Ferrari.

Oscar Piastri was sixth in the second McLaren, while four-time world champion Max Verstappen was ninth for Red Bull.
