ANTIOCH, Calif. — Dominic Scelzi climbs back into a familiar role this week as a super sub.
Scelzi joins Tarlton Motorsports for a trio of World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series events in his home state of California.
Scelzi takes over for Australian James McFadden, who carried the Tarlton No. 21 to victory at Stockton Dirt Track on Friday. McFadden is returning home for the summer season Down Under.
Scelzi will guide the Tarlton entry Tuesday at Kings Speedway, Friday at Bakersfield Speedway and Saturday at Ventura Raceway.
“I’m beyond grateful to the Tarlton Family and the team for giving me another opportunity to drive the No. 21,” he said. “It’s an honor to race for such a top-of-the-line team in such big events against the World of Outlaws.”
The three races will be the first three of the season for Scelzi with the World of Outlaws. It will also be his first at each of the tracks this year.
Scelzi made his season debut with Tarlton Motorsports on Sept. 12 during a NARC King of the West Sprint Car Series event at Antioch Speedway. He qualified second quickest before placing fifth in a heat race, the dash and the main event. It marked Scelzi’s 10th top-five result of the season.
“It’s always difficult to jump in a different car and be competitive right off the bat,” he said. “That was a solid night for us and I know with more laps together we’ll be even better.”
