PUYALLUP, Wash. — The 2026 season gets underway this Saturday at Skagit Speedway for Trey Starks, who has captured at least one championship at the track during each of the last four years.
“It’s more of the same as the last couple of years,” he said. “We have to keep improving. The competition gets better and better every year. That’s great for our local scene, but we have to keep constantly stepping our game up. We’re trying to find the edge every week not only during the local shows but the big events as well. We plan to run for both track championships again this year.”
Starks won both the 410 and 360 winged sprint car titles at the track in Burlington, Wash., last season. He’s claimed the 410 championship each of the last four years (owner’s points only in 2024) and the 360 championship each of the last two years.
Also of note, Starks has been victorious during the first race of the season at Skagit Speedway the last two seasons.
Additionally, Starks is excited for an opportunity to drive for Chase Johnson Racing potentially a handful of times this season. The duo was slated to compete earlier this month during the Mini Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., but the event rained out. Starks is hopeful to make his debut with Chase Johnson Racing in July.
“I’m really excited,” he said. “Chase and I have been friends for a really long time. I’m excited that they are excited to get back racing.”
Starks’ first commitment is the Skagit Speedway schedule, but he is eager to tackle races when opportunities arise for both he and Chase Johnson Racing.
“Trey is someone who fits our vision and morals and values, fits the image of the team, who is professional and is a winner behind the wheel,” Chase Johnson said. “Trey and I have been friends for a long time. Our careers racing sprint cars started at a similar time. We wanted to find someone who would fit who isn’t committed to a full-time deal, which is hard to find. Trey was at the top of the list and I think it’s a good fit for everyone.”
