In a grand spectacle befitting of the incredible backdrop of the Nation’s Capital, Kyle Kirkwood of the United States put the finishing touches on this country’s 250th Anniversary with a victory in the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.
A crowd of 150,000 fans jammed into the 1.7-mile, seven-turn street course, filling the grandstands, lining the fences and turning the National Mall into Festival of Speed.
Driving the No. 27 Andretti Global Honda, Kirkwood started outside the front row and
took the lead on the opening lap.
Dodging multiple incidents during 147-lap race, which took two hours and 40 minutes to
complete, Kirkwood led 128 laps and beat McLaren Chevrolet driver Christian Lundgaard to the checkered flag by 3.09 seconds.
It was his third victory of the season.
