ANDERSON, Ind. — For the 18th time in his career Dameron Taylor won a Kenyon Midget Series race at Anderson Speedway.
Taylor battled in the early stages of the race with K&K Marketing fast qualifier Kyle Sheard, B.J. Shaw and Andrew Wall.
Rookie competitor Eli Fox took the lead on the opening lap battling with Wall for the point, but it was a short night for Fox who bounced off the back straight wall on the second circuit.
Sheard took the lead from Wall on the restart with Taylor following suit.
Taylor, a three-time series champion, took the lead from Sheard on lap 15.
Sheard’s night would end on lap 18 when he tangled with Evan Hammond in turn three while the two drivers battled for second.
On the restart Taylor was pressed by rookie Shaw and the driver of the move was Issac Johnson.
Johnson and Shaw got together on lap 24 in turn two which ended Shaw’s night and set Johnson to the tail of the field.
Taylor was able to hold off Clayton Bohanon by a tenth of a second to win the seventh annual Dick Jordan Classic with Ryan Shikuski coming home in third.
Taylor said in victory lane he worked to hold his spot during the tight racing.
“The rookies are definitely coming,” he said. “It was very clean racing and I’m very happy.”
The victory was Taylor’s 34th career win and he followed up a win earlier this year at the Sportsdrome Speedway.
Bohanon said he was fighting for the win.
“It was clean and close racing,” he said after starting ninth in the 16-car field.
“That was the best car I’ve ever had in may life,” Shikuski said. “I was able to make laps on the outside.”
Shikuski used the Advanced Racing Suspensions Hard Charger award after starting 12th in the field.
