KNOXVILLE, Iowa — Night two of the 35th running of the Xtream powered by Mediacom 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank hits the track Friday at Knoxville Raceway.
With 91 teams entered in the three-day event, which pays $20,000 to the winner, plus $500 per lap led on Saturday night, 46 cars are scheduled to run on Friday.
Each team will compete in qualifying, heat races, and a feature event to earn points on their respective night.
Six former winners of the event are entered, with four in competition on Friday night.
Giovanni Scelzi (2021) will drive the No. 7bc Clauson Marshall sprint car that Tyler Courtney guided to victory in last year’s edition of the 360 Knoxville Nationals. Courtney is recovering from back surgery after a crash at Eldora Speedway in mid-July.
With 69 career 410 feature wins (second on the all-time track wins list), 18 wins in a 360, five 410 track championships and a 360 track championship, Brian Brown (2014, 2023) will be looking for a third 360 Nationals crown.
Nine-time track champion Clint Garner (2017) has shown speed all season as has five-time 360 Nationals winner Terry McCarl (1996, 2001, 2009, 2015, 2018). The 60-year-old McCarl has seven 410 track championships and a single 360 track title at the historic half-mile oval at the Marion County Fairgrounds.
Friday’s field is loaded with star power. Five-time World of Outlaws champion and reigning High Limit Racing title winner Brad Sweet, who won the Knoxville 410 Nationals in xxxx, will pursue his first 360 Nationals triumph aboard the familiar Kasey Kahne Racing No. 49.
Rico Abreu, a winner of 10 410 winged sprint features this season, including three at Knoxville Raceway, is looking for his first 360 Nationals title.
Longtime NASCAR Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne will drive his own No. 9 on Friday night, while Daryn Pittman, who won a World of Outlaws title driving for Kahne is also entered Friday.
A eight-time winner in 410 sprint cars this season, Ryan Timms is among other Friday night contenders that include Brenham Crouch, Chase Dietz, Tim Kaeding, Tasker Phillips, Sawyer Phillips, Carson McCarl, Blake Hahn and Parker Price-Miller.
