Suarez Fined $50,000 For Pit Lane Incident

CONCORD, N.C. — As a result of an altercation following Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, driver Daniel Suarez has been fined $50,000.

The behavioral penalty was assessed per sections 4.4.B&D NASCAR Member Conduct, contact with another vehicle on pit road after the race, of the NASCAR Rulebook.

After the cooldown lap at the end of the event, Suarez repeatedly rammed the back of Alex Bowman’s Chevrolet with his Trackhouse Racing Chevy as the pair made its way to pitlane. The incident came moments after Suarez pushed his way past his teammate, Ross Chastain, to get near Bowman.

The incident took place mere feet from a NASCAR official. Suarez’s dissatisfaction with Bowman was the result of a restart during double-overtime when the pair made contact on the track, with Suarez spinning.

Replays showed that Chastain bumped Bowman into Suarez. Suarez finished 27th.
