Tyler Reddick led a 23XI Racing sweep of the front row during Saturday’s NASCAR Cup Series qualifying session at Texas’ Circuit of The Americas.
During the latter part of the second group of qualifying around the 2.4-mile road course, Reddick and teammate Bubba Wallace clocked in one after the other to secure first and second.
Reddick’s speed of 88.095 mph was 0.224 seconds ahead of Wallace.
“Yeah, all in all it felt like it was hard for anybody in the field today to have a perfect lap,” Reddick recalled. “Certainly, it wasn’t that for me but hit the right areas that matter the most. Fortunately, put together a pretty good lap that was able to hold on there. Certainly, didn’t know the 9 (Chase Elliott) and some of the other cars, the capability of re-running a good time and what that was going to look like.
“All in all, we had a really good lap, and we were able to hang onto it throughout the whole session.”
The next seven positions were made up of Chevrolet drivers, with Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott (third) leading the way. Second-year driver Carson Hocevar qualified fourth.
Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen followed suit in fifth and sixth.
Kyle Larson (seventh), Kyle Busch (eighth), Ross Chastain (ninth) and Todd Gilliland completed the top 10.
In his first Cup Series qualifying effort, Connor Zilisch starts 14th in Trackhouse Racing’s No. 87 Chevrolet.
