SWEET SPRINGS, Mo. — Jacob Denney won both nights of the POWRi National Midget League’s Spring Shuffle at the Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex this weekend, setting a series record in the process with six consecutive feature wins.
Including last weekend’s USAC Kokomo events, the 20-year-old Galloway, Ohio, native, has registered seven wins and eight top three finishes in his last eight races.
In Friday night’s opener, Denney charged from ninth to win the 30-lap feature finishing ahead of fellow Toyota-powered drivers Karter Sarff, Kale Drake, Drake Edwards and Colton Robinson.
Trey Marcham led the opening four laps before Edwards would overtake him for the top spot as Denney started climbing through the field. By the midway point, Denney caught Edwards, passing him in turn two on lap 15. He would go on to lead the rest of the way.
On Saturday, it was all Denney from start to finish. After registering quick time in qualifying and then winning his heat race, the JBL Audio Toyota driver started the feature from the pole position and led all 30 laps, stretching out a lead of more than six seconds at one point on the way to the victory.
As Denney took the checkered flag, Drake would take runner-up honors followed by Zach Wigal as Toyota drivers swept the podium for the second night in a row.
“It’s pretty cool to make history, but I couldn’t do any of this without the great team behind me,” Denney said. “(On Friday) The track was tricky, and I knew I had to be patient working my way forward. Once I grabbed the lead, it was hammer down. Tonight (Saturday) was just a testament to how good this Keith Kunz Motorsports team is. It’s always easy when the team gives me such a great JBL Toyota every night.”
