BIRDSBORO, Pa. — Daylight still prevailed when Tony Jackson climbed from his No. 88 in The Speedway at Pagoda’s victory lane on Sunday evening.
“I’ll tell you, when we first got here today and saw the track, I thought, ‘uh-oh…it’s gonna be really tight out there.’ But man, it was so much fun…I love small tracks like this and wish we ran more of them. That was some elbows-up racing, and it was great. I really hope we can come back here next year,” said the wheel-twister of the McCoy Brothers No. 88.
Sunday’s race was the inaugural event for the Wingless Sportsman at Pagoda Motorcycle Club, and Jackson mastered the racy bullring in quick fashion.
Joining him in the winner’s circle were Tim Buckwalter, who doubled up by winning the River Valley SpeedSTR and Hyper Racing 600 Sprint features. Mason Lineman captured his first Speedway at Pagoda All Star Slingshot triumph and Aubrey Romig notched her fifth victory of the season in Junior Slingshot competition.
Jackson started on the pole of the Wingless Sportsman 25 lapper, took off like a scared rabbit, and was never seriously challenged. He rode the top shelf all race long and won handily in the non-stop feature.
The Brian brothers, Marty and Cliff Jr., waged a tooth-and-nail battle for the runner-up spot for much of the race, with Cliff eventually gaining the position and pulling away from his younger brother to claim the silver, while Marty settled for bronze on the podium. Steve Wilbur placed fourth and Roy Denike finished fifth.
