CALIFORNIA, Mo. — Sunday night at Double X Speedway was about much more than the checkered flags.
It was an evening that celebrated the life and legacy of one of Central Missouri’s racing legends while also investing in the next generation during the annual Bill Utz Memorial and Racing Back to School Night.
Jack Wagner topped the headlining 360 winged sprint car feature.
The front row was occupied by two rising stars in Missouri Sprint Car racing, Ben Brown and Jack Thomas. The first start was short lived as Miles Pauus completed a 360 degree spin bringing out the caution.
On the restart Brown and Thomas would tangle and slide off the top of the track in turn one. This would set up an all Wagner Boys front row on the restart.
With green flag waving it was Jack Wagner moving the No. 77 to the top shelf with the No. 73 of Samuel two car lengths back. Jack Wagner would increase the advantage as the laps clicked by. A caution after lap thirteen for the stalled car of Daryn Langford would allow the field to close up on the rear bumper of Jack Wagner.
When the green flag waved it was the same with Broc Elliott moving into third and Miles Paulus and Tyler Blank racing from the rear to fourth and fifth by lap 16.
The race would go green for the duration with Jack Wagner picking up the victory, Samuel Wagner would finish a strong second, Broc Elliott posted an impressive third, Miles Paulus ended a strong drive in fourth and likewise Tyler Blank ran an impressive race to come from the back and finish fifth.
In the B Modified feature event, it was all Tyler Potter as he picked up his eighth consecutive feature event at Double X Speedway.
James Nighswonger won the super stock feature.
