LAS VEGAS — Open Wheel Showdown promoter Davey Hamilton Jr. announced some changes to the sprint car rules for the $50,000-to-win event Nov. 6-8 at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The changes pertain to tires.
First off, no tire bleeders are allowed. Secondly, the following changes to the tire format were noted in a bulletin issued by Hamilton:
-The event starts officially with first practice on Friday 11/7
-Any solvents or any chemicals applied to the tire to alter the chemical makeup of the compound or have the effect of altering the tire durometer is prohibited.
-OWS officials can sample any stamped tires at any time during the event.
“Here at Open Wheel Showdown, we try to have our rules completely solidified prior to allowing entries,” Hamilton said. “We have done a great job in previous years and for the first time, we have found an error and needed to make a rule to our rule book. As soon as it was brought to my attention, I wanted to make sure to get it fixed as soon as possible to give all of the sprint car teams time to adjust accordingly.”
In addition to sprint cars, the Open Wheel Showdown also includes supermodifieds, modifieds, Legend cars and Bandoleros.
