LAS VEGAS — When the Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts Non-Winged Sprint Cars debut as part of the Only Bulls Open Wheel Showdown at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway November 5-7, it will be only the fifth appearance of non-winged sprint cars in the history of the track.
The 0.375-mile paved Bullring opened for business 1985, but it wasn’t until 1997 before non-winged sprint cars were introduced to the track. Rick Williams won a 30-lap USAC Western Sprint Car Series event at the Bullring on February 9, 1997.
USAC would return three more times over the next 6 years with Ray Evans, Bobby McMahan, Tony Stewart, and Destiney Hays each claiming USAC Western States Sprint Car Series feature victories.
Evans and McMahan were victorious in an event on February 7, 1998, that included two features on the same day.
The most recent USAC Western States Sprint Car Series event on October 16, 2004, that was won by Hays included four participants that are entered in this year’s event. Tony Hunt, Michael Lewis, Mike Murgoitio, and Shaunna Hogg were those drivers who competed at the most recent non-winged sprint car event at the Bullring at LVMS.
The current entry list for the $10,000-to-win non-wing sprint car event reveals 59 entries. Teams will be looking to lower Tony Hunt’s all-time non-winged sprint car track record of 13.985 seconds set on October 16, 2024.
In less than 3 weeks we will ring in a new era of non-winged sprint car racing at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Teams will be competing for the richest purse ever offered for non-winged sprint cars at the Bullring.
