It’s Flick In Western PA Speedweek Opener

MERCER, Pa. — Western PA Speedweek kicked off Wednesday night with A.J. Flick winning the 30-lap main event at Michaels Mercer Raceway Park.

Flick earned his seventh Western PA feature win to tie him with Dale Blaney for the most all-time.

Flick, who started eighth in the field, took the lead on lap 14 after Dan Kuriger led the first 13 circuits. Flick gave up the lead to Logan McCandless on lap 16, but regained the point on lap 22.

He led the remaining nine laps to earn the $5,000 payday on the first of five nights of racing in Western PA Speedweek

Cale Thomas raced from seventh to finish second, while McCandless, Michael Bauer and Cody Bova completed the top five.

Thirty-four 410 winged sprint cars were on hand.
