High Limit Notes: Oklahoma & Texas Lie Ahead

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A three-race run across five days awaits Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing in Oklahoma and Texas this week.

On Tuesday, round three of the Roto-Rooter Midweek Series takes center stage as Colcord, Oklahoma’s Arrowhead Speedway hosts their first-ever series event.

On Thursday and Saturday, the focus shifts to NASCAR weekend in Fort Worth as the Drydene Stockyard Stampede powered by Reladyne goes green at Texas Motor Speedway.

After a no-implications weekend at “The Sprint Car Capital of the World” in Knoxville with the World of Outlaws, the High Rollers are back to chasing points this week with a long 52 nights left to decide the 2026 championship.

Entering the week, Tanner Thorson and Rod Gross Motorsports continue to lead the way over Aaron Reutzel and Ridge & Sons Racing (-54 points), Giovanni Scelzi and Spire Motorsports (-59 points), Rico Abreu and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing (-61 points), and Tyler Courtney and Clauson-Marshall Racing (-80 points).

NEW VENUE

Oklahoma’s Arrowhead Speedway is set to become the third track thus far in 2026 to welcome Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing for the first time ever. Last month, New Mexico’s Vado Speedway Park and Texas’ Route 66 Motor Speedway preceded Arrowhead on the list.

The 15 full-time High Rollers are almost split down the middle regarding whether they have or have not raced at the newly-renovated facility. Those making their Arrowhead debut on Tuesday include Aaron Reutzel, Brent Marks, Justin Peck, Daison Pursley, Sye Lynch, Chase Randall, and Brenham Crouch.

Those with prior laps at Arrowhead include Giovanni Scelzi (3rd with WoO), Rico Abreu (6th with WoO), Tyler Courtney (9th with WoO), Hank Davis (2nd with ASCS), Kerry Madsen (13th with WoO), Tanner Thorson (15th with WoO), Danny Sams III (21st with WoO), and Tanner Holmes (B-Main with WoO).

MIDWEEK POINTS

After the opening two of 16 rounds for the Roto-Rooter Midweek Series, a non-full-timer sits atop the standings as Ryan Timms and the Liebig Motorsports No. 10 lead the way. However, the Oklahoma City native does not plan to compete in his home state at Arrowhead Speedway on Tuesday, so they’ll relinquish command of the $25,000-to-win title.

That means the de facto points currently feature a tie for the lead with Tanner Thorson and Tyler Courtney atop the charts.

Known for producing down-to-the-line championship battles, all three Roto-Rooter Midweek Series titles have been decided by single digits. “Sunshine” himself won his 2024 Midweek title via a tiebreaker over “The Big Cat” Brad Sweet.

HENDRICK TWOSOME

Both of the Hendrick Motorsports dirt stars will be back in their respective sprint cars this week after competing at the Talladega Superspeedway over the weekend.

Corey Day, who topped last week’s Speedway Motors Spring Jackpot at Eagle Raceway, followed that score with his first-career win in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series over the weekend in the HendrickCars.com No. 17.

The Clovis, California 20-year-old will miss Arrowhead on Tuesday before re-joining High Limit aboard the Jason Meyers Racing No. 14 on Thursday and Saturday for the Drydene Stockyard Stampede powered by Reladyne – where his career-best effort through four tries is a fourth-place finish.

Kyle Larson, who hasn’t been behind the wheel of a sprint car since the season-opening SugarBee Blackjack Bash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, is slated to contest all three High Limit events this week.

The HendrickCars.com No. 5 pilot will be back in the Silva Motorsports No. 57 after his brother-in-law took Paul’s No. 94 to victory lane with the World of Outlaws last weekend at Knoxville. Tuesday will mark “Yung Money’s” first appearance at Oklahoma’s Arrowhead Speedway before he continues chasing his first-career win at the TMS Dirt Track on Thursday and Saturday.

CHAMPIONSHIP IMPLICATIONS

This weekend’s Drydene Stockyard Stampede powered by Reladyne will prove to be crucial in the long-term view of the 2026 Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing title fight; as this is the only tune-up at TMS before they host the All-In Championship Weekend on October 16-17.

Through the first seven shows at Texas, two men have stood out above the rest – Brent Marks and Rico Abreu. Marks, of Myerstown, Pennsylvania, won back-to-back races between the 2024 season finale and 2025 Stockyard Stampede opener, and averages a 5.7 finish at the Fort Worth oval.

Besting Marks, however, is Abreu, who enters this weekend on a three-race win streak – returning as the defending Stockyard Stampede champion after a sweep of championship weekend last year.

Current championship leader Tanner Thorson will look to turn a corner in Texas as he averages a 14.4 finish with his best runs being 9th, 10th, and 10th aboard the Rod Gross Motorsports No. 88. Thorson’s closest competitor (-54 points) is Aaron Reutzel, who has produced four top-10 finishes with High Limit at TMS (5th, 6th, 6th, 8th).

Also, in the early-season points picture are Giovanni Scelzi and Tyler Courtney. For Scelzi, the Spire Motorsports No. 77 pilot has only seen Texas for two nights during the season finale last year – finding speed from the jump and finishing third and fifth. For “Sunshine,” he’s led laps at the track and finished runner-up before, but he still chases his first win in Fort Worth.

NEW TEAM

With two races left on the April calendar, it’s not previous winners Stevie Smith, Eric Prutzman, Ricky Warner, Jake Argo or even driver-wrench Aaron Reutzel atop the Cometic Gasket Crew Chief of the Month standings – it’s newcomer to the series, Michael Dutcher.

Making the last-minute decision to join High Limit full-time in February, Dutcher’s move to put Oklahoman Hank Davis into the No. 17GP and compete for Rayce Rudeen Foundation Rookie of the Year honors is paying off. Over their last three races, they’ve surged to seventh at Route 66, fifth at Lucas Oil, and seventh at Eagle.

The 22-year-old hopes to keep the streak alive this week at two familiar tracks in Arrowhead (he’s ran 2nd with ASCS) and Texas (he’s ran top-10 with POWRi).
