Steckly Goes From Seventh Row To Madison Glory

OREGON, Wis. — Normally, the driver who wins an ASA STARS National Tour event starts in the top 10.

That was not the case in Tuesday night’s Capital 200 presented by Appalachian Sucker Punch at Madison Int’l Speedway. The top two finishers came from the seventh row on the starting grid.

When the checkered flag waved at the end of 200 laps, it was Kyle Steckly coming from 14th to score his second-career win in the ASA STARS National Tour. Steckly won the Redbud 400 at Anderson back in 2024.

In addition to winning the event, Steckly won the Hard Charger Award, a $500 bonus put up by Port City Race Cars.

Steckly never really had to contend with ASA STARS Tour front man Carson Brown, who had won three of the first four races. Brown started on the inside of Steckly, but suffered some damage making his way forward. Brown got to the podium before the end of segment two, but Steckly went around all of them to gain the lead on lap 139 after fresh tires were bolted on for the final segment.

While Steckly drove away, Ty battled with Brown for a second-straight race. After 20 laps of battling, Brown pulled ahead, and Majeski would hold on for a third-place finish.

Behind the front three, Ty Fredrickson finished fourth and Derek Thorn was fifth.

The finish:

Kyle Steckly, Carson Brown, Ty Majeski, Ty Fredrickson, Derek Thorn, Tristan McKee, Penn Sauter, Levon Van Der Geest, Isaac Kitzmiller, Austin Nason, Casey Roderick, Gabe Sommers, Derek Kraus, Max Reaves, Luke Fenhaus, Jade Avedisian, Chase Pinsonneault, Stephen Nasse, Justin Mondeik, Paul Shafer, Kasey Kleyn.
