BOWMANVILLE, Ontario — Following a seven-week mid-summer layoff the Trans Am by Pirelli series returns to action this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.
After a slow start to the season, CD Racing has become the hottest team in the series, winning two of the three most recent races, including a pair of one-two sweeps, pole position at all three races and five podium finishes.
“I’ve been racing at CTMP for more than 20 years, and it will always be Mosport to us,” said team owner and driver Chris Dyson. “After all the success Dyson Racing has enjoyed there over the years in other classes it was great when last year this amazing circuit came back on the Trans Am schedule after way too long an absence.
“Thanks to my friends Ron Fellows and Myles Brandt for having us back this year. We finished second in 2024; my goal on Saturday is to put our No. 16 Ford Mustang where it belongs, in the GYM WEED Winner’s Circle.”
The Trans Am Series first ran at CTMP in 1976 and returns there for the first time since 2014.
LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Tristan McKee, the 15-year-old rookie who leads the Cube 3 Architecture TA2 Series standings, has been a quick learner during his first season driving the SLR Motorsports No. 28.
“Coming into it, it was just going to be a learning experience. This road-course stuff was a new discipline for me,” said the Spire Motorsports development driver. “I’m from the oval world, that’s what I’d done my whole racing career, so this was a different thing for me to try to learn.
“It’s important to know how to do because in the top ranks of NASCAR – Trucks, Xfinity and Cup – there are a lot of road-course races. It’s important to be really good at it because it can get you into the playoffs and get you through the playoffs.
“I’m having a lot of fun doing it while working with all the TeamSLR guys. I’ve learned a ton from Scotty (Scott Lagasse Jr.) and Scott Sr. And Scott Speed and Josh Wise (from Chevrolet Motorsports) have taught me so much about all the road-course stuff, and I’ve gotten a lot better at it. I’ve been learning a lot.”
IN MEMORY
TeamSLR’s lone entry, wheeled by McKee at CTMP, will carry a special decal in tribute to the memory of Barry Boes, bearing the tagline, “Always A Champion.”
Boes, 54, was killed in an aviation accident on Aug. 18. He has been a fixture in the Trans Am paddock since 2019, and made major strides in his race craft since joining TeamSLR in 2024.
“Barry will surely be missed in so many ways,” said TeamSLR and constructor M1 Racecars co-owner Scott Lagasse Jr. “His smile and the pure love he had for Trans Am racing was infectious. He came into the sport a little later in life after having been a world-class competitor in water sports.
But he applied an incredible work ethic in trying to make himself the best racecar driver possible, and the results were really beginning to show these last two seasons. More than anything, he was a genuine friend. His presence made our sport better, and his absence will be felt for a long time.”
Decals will be made available to the entire Trans Am paddock.
