Sprint car phenom Corey Day continues to transition into pavement racing, with his next challenge coming this weekend in the Cube 3 Architecture TA2 Series at Sebring (Fla.) Int’l Raceway.
Piloting the No. 17 Hendrickcars.com/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro for TeamSLR, Day will make his debut in the sports car division, which is the feeder series for Trans Am.
The TA2 Series Airs LIVE on SPEED SPORT 1 on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ET.
The Hendrick Motorsports development driver has been busy of late as he competed in the ARCA Menards Series opener at Daytona (Fla.) Int’l Speedway last week. Day was also tapped to pilot HMS’ NASCAR Xfinity Series entry in 10 races this season.
As Day looks to adjust to another variation of race car that he’s only tested once, he’s found some parallels with his time aboard a sprint car.

“I think the cars are awesome,” Day said. “They’re a blast. Sebring’s pretty tough, but the road-course stuff is fun. I get the sense I’m driving the car hard, like I do a dirt car, which makes it fun, whereas with the oval stuff, you lift a lot. The cars are cool.
“I was surprised the first time I drove it, how well it changes directions and that sort of thing. I mean, it’s a lot different because I’m not used to turning right, so that’s a change. I’m glad to be able to do it.”
The TA2 Series features a 39-driver entry list, which the 19-year-old admitted he’s expecting a chaotic 27 laps around the 3.74-mile road course.
“It’s going to be big chaos,” Day laughed. “I don’t think there’s any race in the world that could start 39 cars and not have some sort of chaos if everyone’s trying to win, you know? If everyone’s out there riding around, it’d be a different story, but everyone’s trying to win, so I’m sure it’ll be chaos for me.
“It’ll be figuring out what’s going on for probably the first half of the race, but I’m excited. Qualifying is definitely going to be important.”
