BULLS GAP, Tenn. — Jonathan Davenport won Thursday night’s second annual Scott Bloomquist Memorial dirt late model race at Volunteer Speedway.
Sanctioned by the FloRacing Night in America series, the event paid Davenport $20,018.
Starting fourth, Davenport took the lead from Cory Hedgecock on lap 15 and led the remainder of the 50-lap event, holding off a late charge from Hudson O’Neal.
“I was just following Dale (McDowell) there (early in the race), kind of pacing him,” Davenport said. “Dale always runs lower than I like so I was in his dirty air a lot and I kept moving around and I found a decent line there in one and two where I could enter a little bit higher than Dale and come back under him, and that’s kind of what I did to Cory (Hedgecock).
“Vic (Hill) has really changed this track up a lot and you race it far different than you ever have. It was challenging and fun out there tonight.”
Camaron Marlar, Dale McDowell and Jimmy Owens completed the top five.
McDowell was the fast qualifier for the 41-car field with a lap of 12.039 seconds.
