Bauer Is Surprise Gateway Winner

ST. LOUIS — Cody Bauer was the unlikely dirt late model winner on the second night of the Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals Friday at The Dome at America’s Center.

Bauer started outside the front row and led all 25 laps, holding off a late-race charge from Wil Herrington to win by a mere .483 seconds.

Bauer earned $5,000 for the victory.

Herrington took the checkered flag ahead of Tyler Erb, Jadon Frame and Tyler Carpenter.

Erb was the fast qualifier for the 54-car field.

Ricky Thornton Jr. won the modified feature, holding off Mike McKinney, who charged from 18th to finish second.
