Nason Captures Joe Shear Classic

MADISON, Wis. — Austin Nason banked the $15,000 for winning Sunday’s Joe Shear Classic presented by Toyota at Madison Int’l Speedway.

Nason survived a final restart with 16 laps remaining on the half-mile oval and drove to victory.

Nason had to battle through the field and hang on at the end.

“I knew we had a dominant car all day. We drove from 13th to second, really, in 30 laps or something like that,” Nason said. “It’s a lot of emotion. Try to keep together. It’s been a long time since I won. It feels like but it’s really only been three years, but three years is a long time when you’re in this sport.

“It’s been eight years since I’ve won this race, and I feel like I’ve had a couple taken away and a couple I should have won. So lot to hold together, but we did it, and we did it in fashion.”

Derek Kraus, Luke Fenhaus, Penn Sauter and Andrew Morrissey completed the top five.

Minnesota’s Tristan Swanson captured the Midwest Truck Series Joe Shear Classic 36-lap headliner at the Madison half-mile on Sunday.

It was Swanson’s fifth career win in Midwest Truck Series action after he competed at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minn., Saturday, making the overnight trip worth the effort.

Swanson and his Ford F150 defeated Brady Bill by 1.763 seconds at the checkered flag.  Chester Ace finished third followed by Tyler Noble, Eugene Gregorich III and Blake Brown.
