Former NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Michael Annett has died at the age of 39.
JR Motorsports officials confirmed his death in a social media post on Friday.
Annett stepped away from racing after a stress fracture in his leg led him to missing parts of the 2021 Xfinity Series campaign. Annett made 158 of his 321 Xfinity Series starts driving for JR Motorsports.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Annett family with the passing of our friend Michael Annett,” JR Motorsports posted on social media via X. “Michael was a key member of JRM from 2017 until he retired in 2021 and was an important part in turning us into the four-car organization we remain today.”
Annett, who made 436 starts across all three NASCAR national series, won the season-opening Xfinity Series race at Daytona Int’l Speedway in 2019.
Annett was also a two-time winner in the ARCA Menards Series.
