In his second full-time season, Ty Gibbs secured a berth in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs for the first time in his young career.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver scored two poles, 12 top 10s and eight top-five finishes, all career highs.
Gibbs kicked off the season strong with five top 10-finishes in the first six races with 195 laps led in that span. While Gibbs didn’t win a race for the second straight year, improvement was apparent.
Aboard the No. 54 Toyota, Gibbs was one and done in the playoffs as he had an average finish of 18th in the Round of 16. Perhaps his top performance came in the spring race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.
The event saw Gibbs lead the second-most laps (137) despite severe tire wear. He’d fade at the end of the race, however, and finish ninth.
Next season will be Gibbs’ third full-time season in the Cup Series.
