Gilliland Turns Quickest Lap During Mexico City Drills

MEXICO CITY — NASCAR Cup Series cars hit the track for practice at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for the first time on Friday afternoon.

Front Row Motorsports driver Todd Gilliland turned the quickest lap of the day during the second practice session, stopping the clocks at 93.496 seconds at 93.181 mph.

While Gilliland’s Ford led the way, Ross Chastain was second in his Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet, while Ty Gibbs was third aboard a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

Ryan Blaney in a Team Penske Ford and Chris Buescher in an RFK Racing Ford rounded out the top five.

Michael McDowell was quickest in the opening session in his Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, but he was only good for 25th in the second session.
