Sprint Rankings: Gravel On Top, There’s A New Contender

David Gravel remains on top, but there is a new contender near the top of the National Sprint Car Rankings.

Gravel, the World of Outlaws point leader, owns a 3.710 average finish in 31 starts to remain at the top of this week’s edition of the rankings, but with 38 drivers having reached the 20-start plateau to be eligible for the national standings, there is a new runner-up.

That driver is Pennsylvania hotshoe Chase Dietz, who carries a 4.143 average finish in 21 starts. There is also a new third-place driver and it’s also a Pennsylvania racer, as Troy Wagaman Jr. holds a 5.952 average finish in 21 races.

High Limit Racing drivers Rico Abreu and Tyler Courtney complete the top five in the national rankings.

Danny Dietrich, with a victory at Lincoln Speedway over the weekend, now leads the Eastern region. Ryan Timms is the new leader in the Great Plains region.

Tanner Holmes (Western), Carson Macedo (Mid-America), Cap Henry (Great Lakes), Ricky Peterson (PA-OH) and Trey Starks (Northwest) retained their regional leads.

Eighteen races were run this past weekend, bringing the total to 158 this season. Seventy-nine different drivers have won a feature.

Gravel and Abreu each have eight victories.
