ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Indoor Auto Racing Series is preparing to celebrate a major milestone Jan. 8-9, marking 10 years of indoor racing at the PPL Center.
To mark the anniversary, five area businesses have joined as premier partners, adding $10,000 in prize money for competitors during the two-night Allentown Indoor Race.
The partners are Bear Den Farms, E. Schneider & Sons, GC Lumber, Stew’s Tire Center and Willow Street Pub. The program was spearheaded by longtime supporter Ricky Harring, who has backed the event since its inception in 2016.
Len Sammons, the event promoter, said: “Ten years of racing in Allentown has flown past, Ricky Harring is been a great supporter of the event since its inception back in 2016. To celebrate the milestone, we wanted to do something special and more importantly, we wanted to put additional money directly into the hands of the racers.”
“Having five local businesses step up and join together to make this happen is tremendous. We’re grateful for their support, and I think the competitors and fans will appreciate what these companies are doing for the sport.” Sammons added.
The five partners will be recognized collectively as premier partners in lieu of a single title sponsor. The winner’s purse for each event is doubled across all divisions: TQ Midgets, Slingshots and Champ Karts. The Friday night TQ Midget feature winner will receive $4,000, double the traditional $2,000 share, and the Saturday night winner will collect $6,000, up from $3,000.
Slingshot and Champ Kart feature winners will receive $1,000 each night, double the traditional $500. A Never Give Up Award will pay a $500 bonus to one competitor randomly selected from finishers 5 through 20 in each of the six feature events, benefiting the Leo’s League Pediatric Cancer Fund.
Last year, Briggs Danner scored his first career Indoor Auto Racing Championship victory on Friday night in his hometown of Allentown. Saturday produced another first, as Harvard, Mass., driver Matt Swanson won his first TQ Midget feature.
The 10-year celebration will feature two nights of TQ Midget, Slingshot and Champ Kart competition, continuing a tradition that began with the inaugural Allentown Indoor Auto Races in 2016. Tickets and additional event information are available from the series.
