Laney Makes It Two Straight At Cocopah

SOMERTON, Ariz. — Cocopah Speedway continued the Diamond In The Desert three night event, racing five IMCA divisions.

A 104-car field and excellent weather were the ingredients for the November evening.

Cody Laney dominated the modified main to lead all 25 laps to make it two wins in two nights.

Kollin Hibdon and Braxton Yeager completed the podium. Hibdon was close to Laney but could not quite finish the pass.

Northern sport mods were led by Eric Winemiller for one lap and Jake Smith all the rest for a repeat win for the Minnesota driver.

Stock cars were led by Chaz Baca for a lap until Blake Clark took over.  Baca regained the lead by moving to the top but a few laps later Shelby Williams stayed on the bottom and made that work.

Williams made it consecutive wins in his stock car with Baca second and Clark finishing third.

Anthony Madrid aimed at a second hobby stock win in two nights and faced competition with a yellow leading to a five lap ending.

Thomas Daffern put five laps of pressure on Madrid showing five laps of clean racing and came up a few feet short. Madrid made it consecutive wins and will focus on a sweep Saturday.

Chance Wade led the sport compact main for 12 of 15 laps with a pair of hopefuls leading to a trio battling.

Joshua Cordova was able to take the lead leaving turn four with three laps left and held off Wade and  Eric Lloyd for the win.

Saturday will close the three night Diamond In The Desert event.
