Last-Lap Move Lifts Ryan Newton

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa — Ryan Newton led only the final 90 feet to claim victory with the POWRi Honest Abe Roofing 410 Outlaw Sprint League at 34 Raceway, earning his second career league triumph.

Setting the feature field would find high-point qualifier Xavier Doney and Cameron Martin lining up on the front row, with Martin taking the initial on-track advantage as Doney, Ryder McCutcheon, Jett Barnes, and Cam Sorrells formed the early running top five.

Overtaking for the top spot on lap two, Xavier Doney would lead the majority of the feature with Ryder McCutcheon holding steady in the runner-up position as Cam Sorrells, Austin McCarl, and Jace Park each battled inside the top five.

Finding speed on the top side over the final five laps, Ryan Newton would thrill those in attendance by charging into contention before using a daring last-turn pass to lead the final 90 feet and secure the victory.

One-time leader Xavier Doney would finish second, with Ryder McCutcheon completing the podium.

“I knew lap traffic was going to decide this one; I just hit my marks up top and got it done,” said Newton. “Great team win tonight. Another new track tomorrow, so we’ll see if we can’t repeat.”

Keeping close throughout the feature, Jace Park would race to a fourth-place finish as Joe B. Miller hard-charged past 11 competitors to round out the top five.
