TAMPA — Five Flags Speedway, Montgomery Motor Speedway, J.J. Dutton and the 410 Pavement Winged Warriors have mutually agreed to cancel the planned Children’s Dream Fund race weekend due to the significant travel costs facing participating teams.
The race has historically featured the top pavement Sprint Car drivers from across the county. While teams from California, British Columbia, Colorado, Utah and Michigan had been preparing to make the trip, the higher fuel and transportation costs have become a major consideration.
After thoughtful discussions among all parties involved, it was agreed that canceling the Dream Fund Weekend of Speed at this time is in the best interest of the teams and the event.
The decision is especially disappointing with the enthusiasm that was built around the weekend and its support of the Children’s Dream Fund. A great deal of time, effort and generosity had already been invested by competitors, fans, sponsors, track staff and others who were working to make the event something special.
“This is incredibly disappointing for all of us, and we know it is for the teams, fans and everyone who was looking forward to the weekend,” said Dutton, event founder. “We’re grateful to everyone who put time and effort into making this event happen and to everyone who planned to come out and support the Children’s Dream Fund.”
Dutton and Statham Construction will donate to the Children’s Dream Fund to fully fund a child’s dream, in recognition of Five Flags Speedway, Montgomery Motor Speedway and all of the drivers who had pre-registered for the weekend.
