Starks Banks $26,000 Skagit Prize

ALGER, Wash. — Prior to Saturday night, in the three decades that Skagit Speedway has put on the Fred Brownfield 360 Nationals presented by Bob’s Burgers & Brew, no driver had ever won the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup and 360 Nationals in the same year.

That feat was finally achieved as Trey Starks became the first driver to win both crown jewels in the same year.

After winning the pole shuffle, Starks set out to control the main event by racing out to an early advantage. Jesse Schlofeldt took second early and attempted to keep him close with a lap eight yellow for third place running Levi Hillier bunching the field back up early.

On lap 14, it was Schlotfeldt bringing out the yellow following a spin in turn four, handing second to Levi Klatt. A quick red on the following restart for three cars in turn four brought the race to a fuel stop, with Klatt and Dominic Sclezi now chasing Starks.

Starks again jetted out to a lead that wasn’t as strong, with Klatt keeping him close in traffic before collecting with wrecking slower traffic on lap 29 that ended his night.

Scelzi took over second and had two chances at Starks, making bold moves to his inside on the lap 29 restart and taking one more big run at him on lap 34 after a yellow that bore no fruit as Starks rolled strong to the victory, his third 360 Nationals win.

Starks collected $26,000 for the score and became the first driver to win both Dirt Cup and the 360 Nationals in the same year, a feat that many have come close to but never achieved.

Scelzi capped a strong run with second while Jason Solwold charged from 12th to take third.

The KPro Auto Hornet Nationals went to Howard Vos in a strong performance.

The finish:

Trey Starks, Dominic Scelzi, Jason Solwold, Colton Heath, Robbie Price, Austin Wood, Seth Bergman, Jesse Schlotfeldt, Tanner Holm, Aydan Saunders, Lane Taylor, Kinzer Cox, Jett Barnes, Cam Smith, John Clark, Max Mittry, Kyle Alberding, Carson Hammes, Steven Hendrickson, Levi Klatt, Dawson Hammes, Justin Sanders, Bubba Decaires, Levi Hillier
