With the World of Outlaws and High Limit Racing both taking a week off over the Fourth of July week, many of the nation’s touring stars did not compete.
That allowed some of the local and regional racers to make hay in the National Sprint Car Rankings.
World of Outlaws point leader David Gravel continues to lead the rankings, but Ohio sprint car racer Cap Henry has closed the gap.
Gravel boasts an average finish of 3.564 in 39 starts, while Henry has an average finish of 3.773 in 22 races.
Pennsylvania hotshoe Chase Dietz ranks third, while Buddy Kofoid is fourth.
Kyle Larson has now reached the 20 starts required to be eligible for the National Sprint Car Rankings and he is fifth in the standings this week.
Sixty-nine drivers have made 20 starts and 633 racers have run at least one 410 winged sprint car race this season.
Anthony Macri, who won the PA Speedweek title, now leads the Eastern region standings.
Aaron Reutzel (Mid-America), Tanner Holmes (Western), Cap Henry (Great Lakes), Ryan Timms (Great Plains), A.J. Flick (PA-OH) and Jesse Schlotfeldt (Northwestern) retained their regional leads.
One hundred and four drivers have combined to win 231 features thus far this season.
Gravel’s 10 victories lead the nation.
