LANCASTER, N.Y. — Davey Hamilton Jr. swept the preliminary action for the Must See Racing Perfit Sprint Car Series Saturday night at Lancaster Speedway during the season opening weekend for the tour.
However, a multi-car accident during the 25-lap Super Stock feature at the half-mile oval — combined with the threat of additional incoming weather — forced an early end to the night prior to the start of the 30-lap sprint car feature.
Hamilton kicked off the program by setting the fastest time in qualifying at 15.489 seconds (116.212 mph) with his No. 14 Morgan Exteriors-sponsored sprint car, the second quick time of his MSR career.
Two eight-lap heat races followed, with Empire Super Sprint regular Logan Crisafulli leading all the way to top the first heat in his series debut. Hamilton then made a last-lap pass of Aaron Willison to take the heat-two victory.
After Hamilton rolled six on the inversion dice, Hamilton was scheduled to start on the feature in sixth position.
Unfortunately, circumstances outside of Must See Racing’s control stopped that battle before it could be officially rekindled on track.
“I am glad that we are showing our potential again, it’s no secret we struggled last year so to qualify fast time and win the heat with the top guys there feels great! I’ve had some great news this past week with the Indy NXT announcement so I’m glad things are going in a good direction,” Hamilton said.
