KNOXVILLE, Iowa — The 35th running of the Xtream powered by Mediacom 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank kicks off Thursday night at Knoxville Raceway.
With 91 teams entered in the three-day event, which pays $20,000 to the winner, plus $500 per lap led on Saturday night, 45 cars are scheduled to hit the track on the opening night with the other 46 running Friday.
Each team will compete in qualifying, heat races, and a feature event to earn points on their respective night.
Six former winners of the event are entered, with two in action on Thursday as Australians Kerry Madsen (2020) and James McFadden (2019) will load in on Thursday.
Headlining Thursday night’s field is three-time 410 Knoxville Nationals winner Kyle Larson, who will drive Paul Silva’s familiar No. 57 sprint car. Larson will be doing double duty on the weekend, competing in the NASCAR Cup Series race at nearby Iowa Speedway.
While Larson has never won the 360 Nationals, Silva has. He was the car owner when Shane Stewart won the event four consecutive years from 2010-2013.
Another contender will be five-time ASCS champion Sam Hafertepe, who has won preliminary nights and finished second in the 360 Nationals, but never won Saturday’s main event. Hafertepe is in the midst of a stellar season.
High Limit Racing regulars Chase Randall, Daison Pursley and Justin Peck will be in the field Thursday night as will Justin Sanders, who will drive the Ridge & Sons Racing No. 87 normally driven by Aaron Reutzel, who is out of action with a broken foot.
Multi-time Knoxville Raceway 410 track champion Austin McCarl, ASCS racer Matt Covington and West Coast speedster Tanner Holmes will also be among the contenders.
Other drivers of interest in Thursday’s field include USAC midget graduate Kaylee Bryson and 2018 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Brett Moffitt. Moffitt won a Pro Sprint feature at Knoxville earlier this season.
