FRESNO, Calif. — Dominic Scelzi will climb behind the wheel of a CJB Motorsports entry this weekend during an Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing tripleheader in his home state of California.
Scelzi will fill the seat of Brenham Crouch’s No. 5 for the next three weekends as Crouch was sidelined with an injury during the Knoxville Nationals last weekend.
The action begins this Thursday at Santa Maria Speedway in Santa Maria followed by a race on Friday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare. The weekend wraps up on Saturday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville with the Gold Rush Classic.
“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity and determined to help the CJB No. 5 team out while Brenham recovers,” Scelzi said. “I was in the Hall of Fame just above the crash Saturday morning and it was scary, not just from Brenham’s severity of the impact but my brother’s as well. I hope to help the No. 5 team navigate the West Coast successfully before Brenham is ready to climb back in the seat.”
The three-race weekend marks the start of a six-week stretch of national events for Scelzi, who will compete with High Limit Racing Aug. 27-29 at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., during the Mike Curb Gold Cup Race of Champions presented by NOS Energy Drink; Aug. 31 at Douglas County Dirt Track in Roseburg, Ore., during the SugarBee Showdown on the River presented by Seven Feathers Casino and Resort; and Sept. 3-5 at Skagit Speedway in Burlington, Wash., during the Skagit Nationals.
“I want to thank Chad Clemens, Barry Jackson, Heath Moyle and the entire CJB team for thinking of me as a fill-in driver,” he said. “I can’t wait to get started this weekend.”
Scelzi will then get back in his equipment for World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series shows Sept. 18-19 at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., during the Dennis Roth Classic; Sept. 22 at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif., during the Central Valley Clash; Sept. 25 at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., during the Nashville West Showdown; and Sept. 26 at Ventura Raceway in Ventura, Calif., during the Battle on the Beach.
“The next few weeks offer an opportunity to compete against the best drivers in sprint car racing,” Scelzi said. “We’re eager for the opportunity to get a little more than a dozen races against the top teams in the country to see where we stack up. We always circle these national races on our racing calendar each year and are excited they’ve arrived.”
