Maier Earns First Pole, Sets WWTR Record In TA2 Qualifying

MADISON, Ill. — With practice and qualifying concluded for the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway, Ben Maier earned his first-career Trans Am Pole Award with a blazing-fast time of 58.941, setting a new track record.

The driver of the No. 80 BOE Marine/Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang beat out front-row starter Rafa Matos by a mere 0.085-seconds.

“We started the weekend and it was not the greatest,” said Maier. “We were probably a second-and-a-half off. I didn’t come here last year, so I was figuring the track out and got it figured out by qualifying. I’m really happy that happened.

“We worked on the car all weekend and it was perfect for qualifying and put down a good lap. I watched some starts from last year, and that first turn is crazy when you’re two wide and braking down into that turn, but I think it should be really exciting; I can’t wait to race.”
