DAVENPORT, Iowa — It was an all-day effort, but the track prep crew at Davenport Speedway was able to get the track ready in time for the Friday night racing program.
The racing surface yielded three first time winners on the season, three repeat winners, and three-wide racing all night long.
The finale of the evening was The Outhouse / Storage to Go – IMCA Late Model feature. Dustin Smith broke through for his first late model win at Davenport. Smith started fourth and worked his way up to second by lap five. For the next fifteen laps he trailed Blaise Lewis. On lap 21, Smith went to the bottom to get around Lewis for the lead.
In the final laps, Smith had to fend off Travis Denning to take the victory. Denning, who started the race in 12th, would finish second. Lewis took third over Logan Veloz and Matt Ryan.
Spencer Diercks left the field of the Midwest Recyclers / Del’s Metal Co. – IMCA Modifieds in his dust on Friday. Diercks started 12th in his feature and needed just six laps to track down early leader Brandon Durbin. Spencer would set sail the second half of the race, pulling away to a 4.484-second lead at the finish. The victory was Diercks’ second feature win in a row.
Brandon Durbin would finish second with Brad Dierks third. Tony VonDresky and Logan Veloz rounded out the top five.
A depleted field of Koehler Electric – Street Stocks saw Scotty Pratt score his second straight Davenport feature win. Pratt took the lead of the 15-lap main on lap three and never looked back. Scotty finished more than seven seconds ahead of second place Greg Gill.
Nick Hixson captured his first Davenport feature win of the season in the Freds Towing / Cantrell Towing / QC Towing – IMCA SportMods. \
Jacob Ellihorpe pulled a slider with five laps to go in the D & K Home Products – IMCA Stock Cars feature. The move was just barely enough for him to get by race leader Jordan Miles. Once in the lead, Jacob was able to take a four car-length victory over Jordan Miles in second.
Cautions filled the Wangelin’s Auto – IMCA Hobby Stock feature. That didn’t seem to bother Jordan Patz. Patz led every lap and survived every restart to claim his first feature win of the season at Davenport.
